For organisations that fit that profile, Credo is a defensible purchase. The policy-pack framework lets a risk team map controls to multiple overlapping regulatory regimes — the EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, ISO 42001 preparation, sectoral rules like EU-GDPR or US HIPAA — without re-documenting each one from scratch. Their contextual risk mapping produces a weighted score that can be defended to a board, to a regulator, or to an internal audit committee. The reporting surface is genuinely useful when your job is to produce quarterly AI risk summaries for the audit committee.

The assumption baked into all of this is that your organisation has a team whose full-time job is to keep the register current. The use cases are entered by humans. The risk questionnaires are filled out by humans. The control effectiveness scores are self-reported. When a new AI tool enters the organisation, somebody has to notice, document it, and add it to the register. When an existing tool's usage evolves — a customer-service chatbot starts being used to screen candidates, say — somebody has to reclassify it. This is governance as process, and it works when the process has owners.

The problem is that most organisations deploying AI today do not have this team. They have an AI lead, maybe an AI steering committee that meets quarterly, and a compliance function that is already stretched thin by GDPR and sectoral regulation. FRIA: the obligation advances to 'completed' once a FRIA has been completed for every high-risk agent that triggers Article 27 scope — HR, insurance, credit, public authority use, and similar. Transparency disclosure: the obligation advances once a draft transparency policy exists for every customer-facing agent, and the platform auto-drafts one in the organisation's default locale when a third-party AI tool like Microsoft Copilot or Google Gemini is connected.

This is deterministic code, not AI. The outcomes are reproducible and auditable, which matters because the evidence is going to be scrutinised by a market surveillance authority. The state transitions write to the audit log, which is append-only at the database level — a Postgres trigger blocks UPDATE and DELETE on the audit_log table, so the record of what advanced, when, and why cannot be edited after the fact.

The compounding effect is what makes this different from the questionnaire model. In Credo, obligations are stable until someone updates them. In Fronterio, obligations are stale until the system advances them — but the system runs every night, so by the time the morning dashboard loads, the picture reflects last night's reality, not last quarter's attestation.

The first pattern is the dedicated governance function. If your organisation has a five-or-more-person AI governance team, reporting into the Chief Risk Officer, whose full-time job is maintaining the AI risk register and producing board-ready evidence, Credo's workflow will feel natural and the auto-evidence gap will matter less because you have humans whose job is to keep the register current. The integrations with Jira and ServiceNow will save time you would otherwise spend manually bridging the governance workflow to the rest of the enterprise risk machinery. You should still benchmark Fronterio on scope and price, but the UX fit with Credo will likely win.

The second pattern is multi-regime reporting. If your regulatory surface extends significantly beyond the EU AI Act — say, you report to financial regulators under sectoral AI rules, to US state agencies under various state-level AI laws, to an internal ISO 42001 certification programme, and to NIST AI RMF voluntary adherence — Credo's investment in policy depth is a real advantage.
